5 Reasons to Choose Montessori Education

Montessori education prepares students for a positive life beyond school that is exciting and successful. Montessori teachers provide education to each individual child based on their learning style and personality. Students enjoy school because they can create their own learning experience within the teacher’s guidelines and have an appreciation for knowledge that extends beyond their school years. Below are 5 reasons to choose Montessori education for your child.

If you are local to Richmond, TX, Meadow Montessori is accepting new students for the upcoming school year. Schedule a tour of our school today!

1. Encourages Self-Motivation

Montessori education encourages students to be self-motivated. From the way the classrooms are set up and the curriculum is prepared, students are influenced to take responsibility for their own education based on their learning style. The teachers set parameters, but the student gets to decide, whether intentionally or instinctively, what and how they would like to learn. This holds the students accountable for their own knowledge.

2. Family-Like Atmosphere

The classroom age can vary on average 3 years. This means that one classroom could have a 3-year-old and a 6-year-old in it. Naturally, the older children adopt a role model position and act as older siblings and the younger ones tend to look up to them. The older ones develop a sense of responsibility and set the example for the younger children who are eager to learn from the big kids. This encourages a community and family-like atmosphere.

As children mature in the Montessori classroom over the 3-year period, they understand that they are a part of a community where everyone has their own individual needs, but also contributes to the community. Children exercise independence, but are also given opportunities to work with their peers and to support others when they are in need.

3. Students Enjoy Learning at Their Own Pace

Students have the opportunity to learn at their own pace. Montessori education believes that each child is unique and should not be expected to share the same learning styles. Children in Montessori can choose what they want to learn, within reason, and how they want to learn. This way they don’t become bitter toward education and can feel confident in their abilities.

4. Promotes Self-Regulation

Montessori education encourages the students to self-regulate. When in an environment where independence and thinking for oneself are encouraged, students learn to think critically. They don’t all prepare for tests in the same way. In fact, tests are not a driving force in Montessori. Because there isn’t a focus on tests but on lifelong knowledge, students think about what they are learning and hold onto it. They “become adept at recognizing, correcting, and learning from their errors,” according to the American Montessori Society.

5. Different Learning Style

You can tell the difference between Montessori and a regular public school education as soon as you enter the classroom. The classrooms are not lined with desks but have “stations” situated around the room where students can choose to work on something individually or with a group. The teachers observe and guide the students through their education without a rigorous curriculum or tests. There also isn’t an emphasis on rewards or punishments. Montessori is more focused on the students being hands-on – with the ability to problem-solve and collaborate on projects.

Montessori education provides a learning environment that is not available at other schools. Students with a Montessori education have a yearning for knowledge throughout their life and collaborate easily with others. They are self-motivated and think for themselves since that is what they learned to do at a young age and made it a habit.

Meadow Montessori’s first day of school is on August 10, 2022! Schedule a tour of our school this summer to have your child ready to start their Montessori education in the fall.
