Spring Break Montessori Activities

Springtime brings with it many opportunities to learn and continue to grow! With the weather changing and the flowers blooming, spring is the perfect time to spend some time in and learn about the great outdoors! Meadow Montessori School, located in Richmond, TX, is here with a few activities to make your child’s spring break both fun and educational. Read on to learn more!

Bird Watching & Bird Feeders

Gather together a few bird feeders to put out in your yard with seeds from your local pet store. Not only can you and your child fill the bird feeders together, but after placing them, you will get plenty of opportunities to do some bird watching over the coming months as the weather continues to warm up.

Create A Weather Table

Create a weather table with multiple options like windy, hot, cloudy, and more. Encourage your child to place a marker on whatever options correspond with how the weather is looking that day. This is a fun way to incorporate routine into your child’s break time away from the Montessori classroom!

Fruit Picking

Spring is the perfect time for fruit picking. One of the most popular fruits of the spring is strawberries, and there are many farms that will allow you to pick some when they become ripened and allow you to take them home. From there, you can teach them how to prepare strawberries by washing and hulling them. Maybe even try a new recipe, like strawberry oatmeal bars.

Plant Something Of Your Own

If you have the space for it, consider starting a garden or even a few planters. Your child will love the process of planting the seeds and watering them. This also helps to encourage routine, as they will need to be watered regularly. For this process, consider making a quick DIY daily watering chart to help them keep track of which plant will need water for the day. It may take some time, but watching plants grow before their own eyes is sure to bring a smile to their face!

Participate In Spring Cleaning

Spring cleaning is good for all of us, so this is a great activity to do together! Instead of staying cooped in the house, enjoy the beautiful spring weather by cleaning up any outside toys. Give items a quick rinse with the hose or even a soapy scrub if they need them – water play with a purpose. This will help them learn responsibility and, when done together, can be just as fun as it is productive!

Take Walks

A great way to get some exercise and sunshine in, taking walks when you can is a great spring activity. It gets even more fun for your child if the destination is somewhere exciting, like a playground or store. Your child can collect items from nature during your walk, and create a collage with what they gathered.

Spring Break the Montessori Way

Just because school is out doesn’t mean that your child’s Montessori education needs to be put on pause. Through some of these fun activities, you can encourage your child to continue their learning process by keeping up with Montessori principles such as responsibility, light exercise and movement, nature, and routine.
